"Если они не читали, то зачем нужны?"

Moscow News опубликовали рецензию на наш с Викой сборник об учебниках. Если не обращать внимание, что по мнению автора (Марка Титера) мы оба работаем в РГГУ (UPD: уже исправили, быстро!), то в целом рецензия хорошая. Пара цитат:
The Zhuravleva-Kurilla case is surely worth serious consideration, at all events – not only on its merits (they’ve read the textbooks, which you and I won’t) but because it is advanced by two, well, Others. As Russians studying Americans studying Russians, they know they begin at two removes from their subject, and that their judgments and conclusions demand an unusual degree of dispassion and scrupulousness. Which I think they achieve. You’re welcome.

The reset-inspired McFaul-Surkov committee, for example – the Russian-American presidential working group on civil society – should spend some serious face time over this volume; if it doesn’t, in fact, it’s hard to think why there should be a McFaul-Surkov committee. Rapprochement-minded readers from either country who find no food for thought in these 14 contributions are either not hungry or not looking.
Finally, if this kind of collection can make a useful contribution toward resetting Russian-American mutual history – and it clearly can – then why stop with these two? How about a volume on Russian-Polish mutual history, especially now that that particular ball has finally started rolling? And Russian-Ukrainian history?
And Mexican-American history, surely? There’s every reason to “reset” these and many others as well, and the sooner the better.
