В оценке лекции Зубова он, по сути, оказался близок к моим впечатлениям (хотя я читал только письменный отчет):

Ливен представляет собой такой тип иностранного патриота России и защитника русского народа от западных предвзятых оценок, иногда его именно поэтому любопытно читать; теперь вот и нашим "либералам" досталось.

His talk consisted of going back through Russian history all the way to the Middle Ages and identifying a set of crucial “mistakes,” plucked out of historical context and presented with crucial accompanying facts missing. On the one hand, this is as unhistorical a project as can well be imagined for a historian. On the other, it amounted in effect to trashing most of Russian history—which once again, is no way to get your fellow countrymen to listen to you.
